We know privacy policies can feel like reading a legal textbook. This one is not. We wrote it in plain language so you know exactly what we do with your information — no tricks, no hidden surprises.
01Who is responsible for your information?
Pettyworx is the “responsible party” under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). That means we decide how and why your information is used, and we are accountable for protecting it.

02What information we collect
When you sign up as a client:
- Your mobile number (used to verify your identity via a one-time PIN)
- Your name
- Your suburb or area (so we can find providers near you)
When you sign up as a provider, additionally:
- Your ID document and a selfie photo (for identity verification)
- Your bank account details (so we can pay you)
- Your services and the areas you work in
When you use the platform:
- Messages and photos shared during a job
- Job details, status and history
- Your location — only when the app is open and you have allowed it
- Ratings and reviews
- Device type and how you use the app
03Why we use your information
We only use your information for specific, legitimate reasons:

We do not sell your information to anyone. Ever.
04Who we share your information with
We only share what is necessary, and only with people who help us run the platform:
- Payment partners — to process payments securely
- SMS and push notification services — to send job updates
- Identity verification services — to check ID documents
- Cloud hosting providers — your data is stored on secure servers
- Our team — staff who need access to do their jobs (access is limited and controlled)
If a court order ever requires us to share your information, we will tell you unless the law prevents us from doing so.
05Your rights under POPIA
POPIA gives you the following rights. Exercise any of them by emailing privacy@pettyworx.co.za:
- Know what we hold — ask for a copy of your personal information
- Fix mistakes — we will correct anything wrong or out of date
- Delete your account — we will remove your information within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep certain records
- Object — if you think we are using your information unfairly
- Complain to the regulator — contact the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforeg@justice.gov.za
06How we protect your information
- All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS)
- Sensitive details are never stored in plain text
- Access to personal information is limited to staff who need it
- We review our security practices regularly
07How long we keep your information

08Children
Pettyworx is not for anyone under 18 years old. If we discover we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it immediately.
09Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects your rights, we will notify you in the app before the changes take effect.
